Is it bad when a college recommends you to take another SAT to strengthen your score?

I checked my application status for one of the colleges I applied to, and it says that they recommend me to take another test to get a more competitive score. It also says that they have reviewed my credentials and need additional information to make their decision. Does that mean I didn’t get in? I’ve taken the SAT twice, but it’s too late for me to register for another SAT or ACT because the scores won’t come in by the college’s deadline, which is February 1st.

It sounds like you didn’t get in yet but you’re close; they didn’t simply reject you.

So the college admissions advisor at my school went over this. She did say that it is very rare that colleges ask for you to take the ACT or SAT again but it does happen. She said that when it does often they would like to accept you but they can’t at your current scores so they are giving you an extra opportunity or so. I would email the reps and ask if it would be okay if you took the January SAT and rushed the scores. They might let you do that even though it is past their deadline.

It’s not the same situation but I had a friend who applied ED somewhere and took the October ACT and did not get her scores back until December 25, which is several weeks after ED decisions were released. She had emailed the college and they had made an exception for her because it was not her fault the scores were not available yet. I think if you show that you truly do want to improve your standing they will consider giving you the extra time.

Interesting, i haven’t heard of this before. I agree with the above. They will be generally aware of test dates. If you show willingness by doing as suggested above, I think that might be really positive for you. Explain that you will rush the score as soon as possible. If you manage to bring up your score, I think you will have good news from this college. Good luck.

That’s unusual, but if it’s the school you strongly want to attend, do it.
