Is it better to accept UW's admission offer in January instead of March?

Is there a benefit to accepting UW’s offer of admission earlier rather than later? My son is still deciding between 2 universities, but I’m trying to decide if it is worth the $100 deposit. Would he be able to get an earlier SOAR date? Or a better chance at getting the dorm of his choice?

At least two years ago, the dorm lottery wasn’t determined by date of enrollment.

For Soar the reservation system opens up in late April:

"FALL/SUMMER ADMITS
The reservation system will open at the following times:

Transfer Students – April 8, 2019
Freshmen Students – April 22, 2019"

Also, deposits are refundable if requested by May 1st in the past. You must send separate requests to Res Halls and UW. From above SOAR reservations aren’t available until April and Res Halls doesn’t do its housing lottery until later. Do be sure to read fine print from both UW and Res Halls for dates you can reply.
