Should I even bother studying that much for SATs junior year or just leave off the serious studying until the summer? Should you focus on your SAT IIs and APs exams/classes instead?

Who has done this and what was the outcome? Do people generally do better from studying over the summer and taking it before apps are due? What are some disadvantages and cautions in taking this route? Slacking over summer? Not enough time during the beginning of senior year?

If you agree with the above case, what would you recommend that I do study for the SAT during the remainder of my junior year? Vocab? Grammar/writing?

do NOT wait until senior year to seriously take the SAT. i took it for the first time in january, then again in may and i was done. TAKE IT IN JANUARY OR MARCH IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. you will not regret it.

Turns out fall of senior year can be really hectic, primarily with applications and SAT re-takes if desired/neccessary. It'll be hard to get started on a college list without some ballpark numbers.

well i, along with everyone else i know, never did much serious studying for standardized tests. i wouldnt worry about it until you get closer to taking the test, IMO the best preperation for any standardized tests is keeping up in school and reading a book.

My advice would be, as others have said, to not leave all your testing to senior year. I didn't write any SATs until this year, and since I applied ED, I only had one chance for each test (wrote SAT in Oct, and SAT IIs in Nov) so there was a lot of pressure to do well, since I wouldn't have the opportunity to re-take them. Add on time spent juggling scholarship/university applications, and just normal school work, it was a very stressful few months.

The reason I left my testing until grade 12 was because I didn't seriously consider applying to the US until September of this year. I originally intended to study for the SATs during the summer, but honestly, I probably opened my books maybe twice the entire summer; I ended up cramming in a few practice tests the night before the exam :P

Definitely take it no later than Spring of your Jr year. Then you have time to review and retake in fall of Sr year. If you are satisfied with your scores, then you are done.

I think I might have left out something. I'm planning on taking it once this year but I don't know if I should focus on it too much. I have SAT IIs, APs, classes and ECs... How can I do well in all of them?

i would take it junior year, if i were you. you can see where you stand, and will still have mucho time to "up" your scores later on if you're not happy with them.

I took my subject tests in January, March, and June, and the SAT Reasoning in March and October this year, and that's worked out fantastic. If you're nervous about your SAT Reasoning scores, I'd take that in June in place of the subject test.

It helps to do it early, because the experience is honestly as valuable test prep as any amount of studying.

If you're satisfied with your junior year scores, great, you're done! and if you aren't, you have ample time to try again, and you're a step ahead of where you were before.

As far as test prep goes, it depends on what kind of scores you're aiming for, but an SAT class is invaluable, even if you think you don't need it. No more than once, max twice is necessary, but it keeps you on task and without distraction, because honestly - who would take a bunch of practice tests normally? It'll also clarify the writing rules and help with the essay.

Junior year at least
I waited because I was afraid for my math score
I outshot my goal for math by 60 points
but I wasn't in an english class (f*** block schedules) and I know that if I had taken the class while I was in AP comp junior year I would have gotten at least a 750 instead of a 720:[
My base scores would have been the same if I took it twice but for colleges that combine scores the difference could have been huge
Either way by waiting I only had time to take the test once and if I underestimated myself the first time..... :/

Without question take SAT Jr year and start taking SAT 2's as soon as you can. Sr. year is impossible, I don't know about other people but our teachers piled on work this fall insanely. Add to this, college visiting, filling out forms, writing essays AND retaking tests if you need to......get as much done as you can early.
