Is it better to submit low SAT II tests or not submit the scores at all?

Hello! I am applying to a handful of Ivy Leagues and a few other top institutions (i.e. Northwestern, UChicago, ect.) for regular decision. My stats:

34 ACT - (35 E, 35 R, 30 M, 35 S)
3.8 UW GPA
4.4 W GPA

For further STEM-based context, I received an A (90%-100%) in AP Chemistry and scored a 3 on the exam (another ouch . . .). I am currently enrolled in AP Biology and AP Calc AB and have A’s.

But my subject test scores were low. I intend on majoring in Biochem or Biology, and I took these two tests on October 5th, 2019.

Chemistry: 690 - (50th percentile)
Math II: 680 - (37th percentile) Yes… I know. Not sure what was wrong with me.

I understand these scores are bad. I applied to Rice University in the Early Decision cycle and was rejected; I did not include either of these scores within that application. Believing I’d be accepted to Rice, I didn’t retake these two tests. A poor decision.

I’m trying to prevent further mistakes, so please give me any outside advice you can possibly provide.
Should I send these scores?

What are your safeties? You need to make sure that you are applying to at least two schools where you will be accepted, you can afford, and that you would be happy attending.

Chicago and Northwestern and Ivy League schools look like rather high reaches to me. I am not convinced that any of them would be a good fit for you. I do not think that it will matter whether or not you send you SAT subject test scores.

@DadTwoGirls @Mwfan1921 I’ve already been accepted into Penn State and UMichigan. Applied to Boston University and Baylor.

I would not send either of those scores…you may find that reasonable people have different opinions on this issue.

IMO your application is weaker with those scores than without. Of course if a school requires subject test scores you must send them.

Please tell me that, in addition to the reach schools listed above, you have also applied to match schools and at least one affordable safety.

I would agree that you shouldn’t send either of the scores.

One more vote for not sending.

Also, don’t self report that AP score of 3. Imho, it makes the A in chemistry less valuable (and possibly other As as well.)

Congratulations on having good options lined up!

@gardenstategal I’m concerned that admissions will think I’m hiding something if I don’t submit it, since I did take the class

Lots of people take the class and don’t take the exam. I wouldn’t worry about it.

@gardenstategal Thank you so much!
