Is it crazy to take 17 credits my first semester?

Right now I have scheduled:
Chem 130 - 5 credits
English 125 - 4 credits
UC 104 (Required MRC course) - 1 credit
Math 115 - 4 credits

and 3 credit hours of research.

My advisor said it's not uncommon to see pre-med students taking 17 credits per semester..but I know that I'll be adjusting to college & all my first semester.
Do you think this is this a reasonable schedule for an incoming freshman?

No one can predict how you will react to college, but for the average person that is not an impossible schedule.

I am not sure how much time your research class will take but Calc 1, Gen Chem, and English shouldn’t be that time consuming. Are you taking the Chem lab?

3 credits of research would be 9 hours per week.
Yeah the Chem 130 Lecture, discussion, and lab total 5 credits.

That doesn’t seem bad at all…actually it seems like a pretty easy schedule compared to others I’ve seen but I guess it depends on how you “adjust to college”.

alright then, I guess it’s more about what classes you take than the number of credits.
thanks

they recommend anywhere between 14-18 credits per semester.

if you haven’t been to orientation yet, i’d really recommend looking at the lsa course guide and figuring out what classes you ARE able to take. you probably won’t be able to take english and some of these other classes honestly might not even be open, just giving you a heads up so you better have some back ups.
and a lot of people do fine with 18- some don’t- but i think you should just keep in mind that less than 3% of the student body graduates with above a 3.8 (so I’ve heard) so however you think you can do. i’m taking 18-20 credits 1st semester (i’m playing the system) and i believe i’ll be able to handle the classes just fine- but that’s me; you have to decide for you.
