is it easier for instate students to be accepted?

so like, when comparing an instate student with the exact same stats as an out of state student, does the instate student have a better chance?

For what school?

Generally, yes, for public universities, and no (or maybe a very little bit) for private ones.

Yes, it would be easier in-state. How much, I am not sure.

The purpose pf state schools is primarily to provide educations for state residents, who, with their families, have been supporting them through state income taxes. So, yes, they tend to accept more state residents than out of state students.

CPSLO, UCD, and UCB are selective enough that the higher CSU or UC minimum standards for non-California residents are unlikely to matter (although CPSLO does have a small local area preference).

However, financial aid at these schools will definitely favor California residents.

I have never seen a direct comparison of instate and out of state students with the same grades, and some say out of state students applying to UC’s are a self selected group with better stats, but the admit rates for OOS students have often been higher than in state for UCLA.

Not sure about these three.
