is it even necessary?

to take SAT coaching classes? i know some people just studied form a book and did well but others took a class and also did well. any reccomendations, bits of advice? is taking a class worth it? or will i learn just as much (for much cheaper) from a book?

Depends on what you are like. If you are someone who can't study for the SAT unless somebody pushes you to do so, then try a class or a tutor. If you think you can study by yourself and have success with that, then you can try that.

Well, I personally didn't go for any classes, but bought myself or borrowed princeton, barrons and college board, found preparing from them to be easily enough. But then as said before, depends on whether you're already strong enough in the core syllabus to be confident enough to just use the books.

Really depends on you. I think classes are best for people who aren't good at standardized tests, get test anxiety, have trouble staying motivated without homework assignments, learn better in a class than on their own, etc. I would start with some good books (PR and the College Board tests are the best), study a bit, do a practice test or two and see where you stand. If you do a class, PR's are supposed to have the best one.

I'll say this : If you can study yourself then don't goto a class. If not then you need a class.

Take a practice test and see how you do. If you score really high, don't bother with the class. And even if you don't score really high, like everyone else said, you have to decide whether a class would work for you.
