hey guys do you think I have a chance at UCSD? I'd love to go to UCSD and would like to know if there should be any improvements in my area and see where I stand.

I'm a junior right now at at private catholic all boys school.

I have a 3.7 weighted GPA with 1720 SAT - 560 reading 600 math 560 writing. I'll take SATs twice more and ACT too to see how much I get more.

Almost all of my classes are Honors classes and I've taken 2 AP class this year and
planning on taking 4 next year.

I'm the advertisement manager in the school's Asian American Club, I'm also in the Leadership club, art club, environmental club, varsity swimming manager, and a student council officer and plan on running for school vice president this year, I've done my volunteer service work at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Hopsital and also at a local soup kitchen.

I'm also very into my school's art club, (and not to brag but) I'm considered one of the school's best artist and my teacher recommends that I go to Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) but I'd like to keep options open and art school isn't the biggest option for me since I'd like to major in psychology or environmental science, also since I'd like to go somewhere in Cali.

Well I think the average GPA for UCSD admits was around 3.9-4.0 UC weighted so try to pull your GPA up a bit. Your EC’s will definitely help. Also, I think UCSD admits all freshmen as undeclared, so unless you’re applying for an impacted major maybe you should apply with an art supplement? Those are just my thoughts. Good luck!

don’t be fooled guys.
they only accept top 10% students. if you are, then you have a high chance to get in. if you’re not, i don’t think you will. im sorry to tell you that. i applied to UCSD too and im not 10%. it even says so on their profile how 99% of the students admited were at least in their 10% of their senior class.

well you still have a year, so good luck to you!

ps; you should still apply. you never know if you can be that 1% person =]

thanks for the comments chococookie and naixn92

yeah maybe if I do something with art, but I am no where close to being the 10%. My school has so many smart kids its unbelievable and we have a weird grading scale 92-100 is A, 84-91 is B, 77-83 is C, 70 to 76 is B and rest is F.

It’s important to keep in mind that UCSD is not a hard school to get into. Rankings actually don’t play a large factor in the application process because a lot of schools in the U.S. do not rank.

It might actually be better that you’re out of state because the UCs charge more for out of state students and since we’re in so much debt now, the additional fees that you pay might be welcome.

Why UCSD though? You could be going to BU or BC with your stats, where they take better care of their undergrads.

If you’re out of state, yes it is easier than previous year but it is pretty hard.
Well, i don’t know but it still says that 99% of the first-time freshmen admitted were in the top 10% of their senior class. It’s much higher than UC Berkeley or even UCLA. Go check online, maybe it changed but eh.

I agree with mapthesoul… UCSD kinda sucks for undergraduates… but eh… you’re there to learn! source: i have many friends attending UCSD.

yeah, naixn. that’s why i’m really scared. however, i know that at my school about 70 people were accepted and there were only 400 people in the graduating class so i guess it depends on the school.
basically, use ucstatfinder to see if you have any hope of being admitted if you’re not in the top 10%

aw. i’m not considering UCSD anymore. I love the weather and the area and how most of the people are friendly but I don’t really like the faculty there… just my opinion.
well good luck to you chococookie! i hope you’ll make it in! crossfingers =]

thank you mapthesoul, naixn92, and chococookie once again.

i don’t know I just wanna go somewhere in Cali for college because weather is a huge factor for me. I told my dad that he told me about UCSD, I told him about USD too but I heard USD doesn’t have that much name value so I was looking for a more name valued school.

I guess I could just ignore the weather and go to BU or BC though thanks for the encouraging words! I might actually consider them now.
