I am just wondering if there is any time to party for the student athlete?

As a student who is part of Crew, which in my opinion is one of the most demanding sports because of the waking up at 4:30am for water practices (even on Saturday morning), I say there is plenty of time to party.. though you might be tired at night... quite tired.

I attended a recruiting discussion with college lacrosse coaches.

The message they put out was that for a college athlete there's a tripod of activities to balance, and it's difficult. Between the academic committment, the athletic committment, and the social life, there's generally only enough time and energy to be heavily involved in two of the three.

He pointed out that for non-athletes, who were not trying to be involved in athletics, it was a lot easier balancing academics and social life.

Make your own choices -- but if you want to stay in school and be part of a winning team -- something has to give, and it's probably the partying.

at my college (top tier LAC- D3), the athletes were the ones who partied the most and hosted the most parties, especially kegs after big wins.

Another rower -- we only party saturday nights because there's no practice on sundays, and have a "forty-eight-hour rule" to be dry before races, which is quite strict. Some spring seasons the team will decide to go dry and spring break is dry. So we party to the extent that it won't interfere with our training.

is this a trick question??? at my school its very easy for athlethes to drink- theres always parties that soccer and softball and basketball people throw. not a problem at all at my school

I've seen plenty of athelete kids party on Saturdays, esp if they just have a game.

I have a good friend who is a freshman and plays soccer for Whitman... she told me that basically they come home from a game, get off the bus, and everyone is handing them alcohol.

I thought this was a trick question too......the only thing hard about drinking as an athlete is the liquor. What kind of naive question is this?

the crew kids don't stay up late and party so much because they need to get up hella early for their practices.

it depends on the sport and how strong the program is, I suppose.

Let's put it this way....if you really want to party, you'll find time, athlete or not.

A true statement......they party earlier and regularly.

if they can find the time they can. usually right after games athletes at my school will party. and they get free entry into almost any bar or club (even those under 21), just because they are part of the team

Athletes are some of the worst partiers even at the highest level, we're always the one throwing the parties and most of the time can get free alcohol.
