i will be playing a fall sport next year at a nescac school (its D3), how will my social life be affected? do athletes usually still drink and party during their season?

Not if you want to be good.

Nope. My brother was a tank during highschool, but he didn't go out a single night in-season in college. He was a D1 runner though. He eventually quit halfway through his junior year after a few too many injuries.

I'm also a DI runner and my social life is great. The only problem is the drug testing - marijuana/THC IS tested for and stays in your system for 30 days (luckily I just found this out a month ago before the random testing started).
Off-season, I'm out Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but now during season I'm pretty much just limited to Thursday and Saturday. I'm still having the time of my life here, though.

I go to a NESCAC school and last year my roommate was on the hockey team - his social life didn't suffer. During the season, perhaps the wild parties slowed down, but his grades went up and he still had a grand time. The drinking slows down I believe, but after a big game (and associated win) then there will be a party.

I don't know what other schools have this, but we have a mandatory athlete study hall that we need to go to for at least 4 hours a week. I love it and think it's the best thing the school can do for its athletes.

i went to a nescac school and the athletes had the best social life- constant partying and very close knit teams.

thanks alot... do you usually stay over at the school you play at on weekends if its far away?
