Is it hard to switch major within same school (from software engineering to computer science)?

Hello.

I will be transfering in this fall as a software engineering major. If I end up not liking the major, would it be difficult for me to switch to computer science major? If not, what is the process?

Thanks in advance!

If CS impacted, it will be difficult. Most UCs require that your are admitted under the impacted major and discourage switching. Otherwise everyone would apply as “Under Water Basket Weaving” but switch later on.

look at the websites of the UCs you are considering to see what they say, also call the dept undergrad advisor for CS and talk to them to get their take.

Usually you cannot switch into an impacted major after transfer.

Try using a web search for “change major computer science [school name]”. Presumably, your school is CPSLO, SJSU, or UCI if it is a California public.
