I am applying for College of Art and Science, but I am also interested in Materials. Is it difficult for students to tranfers among these colleges in freshman year and upcoming years?

Its easy to transfer between schools

My friend applied ED1 to the peabody school of education as an HOD major and I applied to the college of arts and sciences ED2 as an econ major, however we both want to study econ. I DEFFINETLY had a better application than him. He got in, I didn’t. No hard feelings, but I just feel as if he worked the system and his strategy was better than mine. Good for him! Sometime I regret not doing what he did. Is it going to be easy / doable for him to switch into Econ? I know this is something that many people try to do.

It’s very easy to switch between schools.

@prepurm, as for you and you and your friend, there were probably other factors/random chance involved. The admissions team looks for slightly different qualities in Peabody students than in A&S. It is not significantly easier to get into Peabody as you seem to be suggesting.

@ElmonChan: Just so you know, Vanderbilt does not have a materials science major, but they do have different majors with materials concentrations.

Engineering science major with materials concentration (School of Engineering):
[Undergraduate Program | School of Engineering | Vanderbilt University](Undergraduate Program | Materials Science | School of Engineering | Vanderbilt University)

Chemistry major with materials concentration (College of Arts and Sciences):
[The Chemistry Major | Department of Chemistry | Vanderbilt University](<a href=“Department of Chemistry | Vanderbilt University”>Major and Minor | Department of Chemistry | Vanderbilt University)

thanks for your infomation.

there is still one question, the core one, is it hard to transfer bewteen A&S and engineering school?

No, it’s pretty easy. People rarely get declined.
