Double Major Across Schools

Are you able to double majors between two different schools at Vandy?

Yes.

You have to pick a ‘primary’ school and follow their gen ed requirements (ex AXLE), so you should try to make your primary school the one with the easiest requirements.

Thanks! Do you know whether A&S or Peabody has easier requirements? Which is easier to get into?

I believe Peabody’s liberal arts core is easier. You can look at AXLE (A&S core) and the HOD core ( http://peabody.vanderbilt.edu/docs/pdf/registrar/2012_13_HOD_liberal_education_core.pdf</a> ) and compare.

There isn’t a significant difference in difficulty of getting in. Peabody admits have slightly lower average SAT but probably tend to excel a little more in other areas like leadership and service.

Do you know why so many students double major at Vandy?

Probably because theyre vanderbilt students- active and involved and versatile.

S2 was accepted and is enrolled in the School of Engineering as a computer science engineer major and has added a double major of Math. There is a special program for Engineering students to be able to do this as there is an overlap in a few of the courses.

Because double majoring isn’t that difficult. You have a lot of open electives, and a lot of liberal arts core electives to take-- sometimes it just makes sense to arrange them into a second major. A major/minor combo is more common though.
