Just wondering… Which needs more problem-solving ability?
Probably the 800. You need a 65% to get a 5 and an 86% for the 800. AP weird scoring rules are the only thing that would complicate that.
agreed. Harder to get 800.
Much much harder to get the 800.
@preppedparent Should a student retake a 790 on math 2 for HYPSM?
no, you don’t need to, and your score can actually go down.
Math II. The subject test is very unpredictable, whereas the AP Calculus exam seldom has any questions that you haven’t seen a million times if you spent any time prepping.
The subject test doesn’t even hit calculus level, though. My kid found the subject test (800) a lot easier than the AP test.
Math Level 2’s questions are very straightforward. The answer choices contain fewer trap answers relative to ACT Math and SAT Math questions.
As long as you put in the work to learn all the topics that are tested, you should do okay. An 800 on Math Level 2 is 80 percentile. Try taking a practice test to see how you do.
Having said that, it’s possible that Calc BC would be easier for you. I don’t know many students for whom that comparison matters, since most of them aren’t in a position to take the BC test prior to their application deadlines.
