I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake by applying early admission for UVA Engineering. Would I have been better off with the general admission. Sounds like the competition is going to be unusually tough this year.
Usually engineering at any school is a bit more competitive, but not by a lot. They will pay more attention to your math and science grades when deciding whether or not to admit you. The hard part is usually not trying to get into engineering school, but rather being able to stay in engineering.
Every school has an assessment or research office that puts out data that can help you determine this yourself. Of course, these charts don’t tell you about the quality of the applicants (strength of program grades, recommendations, essays), but they can help.
