Is it necessary to retake SAT II if I got below 750?

I got 740 for chemistry and 730 for physics, 800 for math. But Columbia needs 2 subjects, and other than the math one, the other two seems a little bit weak. (All my friends got 780-800...) I am going to apply for ED for SEAS...just wondering...would that weaken my chances to get in?
btw, I'm a girl and I heard that engineering seems to favour girls a lot. Is that just rumor or is that actually true for SEAS?

It should not affect your chances that much as long as the rest of your application is strong. I had very similar scores except for an additional 800 on a language test, and that was in my native language.

During orientation they read statistics for the four undergrad schools at columbia (CC, SEAS, GS, and BC) and SEAS was like 55-60% male for 2011, so yeah, you could say that they might favor girls a little more than guys

I wouldn't worry about the second SATII score--your scores are strong enough. You should only retake the SAT II if you really want to, but I think it is good enough.

They're good enough. They get the job done.

Shameless Barnard-is-part-of-Columbia trolling.

Thank you.
I have another question. I'm in the IB program in Canada. How much does Columbia recognize the IB program in foreign countries? How much does Columbia weigh the IB 45 marks comparing to the SAT scores?

buuuuummmmmp...

wow i got a 790 in physics and im retaking

wow that's idiotic

OP, your scores are fine...don't sweat and no reason to retake

eclecticist - you took the SATII in your native language? I am planning to do the same, but I am worried that they might not like, that I took a test in a language I already know so well...what do you think?

There's nothing wrong about taking the SAT II in your native language, as long as you score 800, or very, very close. I got in ED, and I'm sure many others who did so got in as well, so it's not something to worry about.

TT_4645: Columbia gets lots of applications from students all over the world. They know the IB program very well, as well as other programs like A-levels, etc.. IB marks probably act like your GPA, but the ones you send now are predicted scores. They won't be able to see your real scores as they come out in July.

so SAT II scores in the low 700s and high 600s reflect badly to Columbia? :(

anything in the 700s is perfectly fine

you know this is an unhealthy environment when people are unhappy with 740s and 800s.

Ender: Don't retake after a 790! The risk that runs is turning off the adcom for displaying arrogance!

Hmm you can take an SAT subject test in your native language? I thought we were not allowed to do so... Or maybe it's only like that in some schools like Harvard.

By the way, Eclecticist, how did you manage to get such high marks if English wasn't you native language? That's impressive :)
