is it ok to apply this late?

the teacher from whom I had planned on obtaining a recommendation for michigan had her sister commit suicide recently, so it might be difficult for me to get that recommendation before mid october or so. would it be terrible for me to apply around mid october? would they not look at my application until the rec was in? would I still have a good shot at the honors programs (w/ 34 ACT & 3.8 unweighted)?

its not a problem with those stats. I had only slightly better stats and i applied in mid-Nov and got in early Dec.

This is still early

All my stuff is going to be in this wednesday, but I've only got a 32 act and 3.85 or so Umich GPA, so you should be totally fine because your ACT is ridiculously good.

My friend with a 34 act and about a 3.9 umich gpa applied in january, got in and got 50k in scholarships. so you shouldnt have any issues.

how does UMich recalculate GPA?

actually, if you take off my freshman year and only count academic classes it's more like a 3.9 something unweighted.

I think that's what michigan does.

I'm sorry if it's a silly question for me to ask, but the college application process seems to have a million variables and it's hard to keep track of it all, so sometimes i like to be try to be more certain about things.

wow 50k scholarship applying in jan?

34 ACT and 3.9 GPA is great and gives you a great possibility at honors and some scholarships. october is still relatively early in the application process.

Be careful not to apply later than October 30. With your credentials, we are talking possible merit scholarship...and for that to happen, your application must be submitted in full (including school transcripts and recs) before November 1. In fact, given your credentials, your recs aren't going to be that important. I would send your application now and have another teacher write your rec.
