Hi, so I’m having a little bit of a problem here. Before I ended my sophomore year, I decided to take AP Chemistry instead of AP Biology. It was a last minute decision, and now I’m really thinking that I should’ve taken the other given that I struggled understanding the concepts and knowing how to place my math properly in it. As someone wanting to major in Criminology, is this a mistake? And if I were to switch out of AP Chemistry and into AP Biology, is it still possible? Summer has just started, and Junior year hasn’t started yet, so would that be okay?
You have not sent applications to any universities. If you were to switch, they will only see what you take. They will not see what you once thought about taking.
If you high school allows you to do this, then I don’t see any problem at all. Take whichever course you would be most comfortable taking at this time.
This is the issue - the HS may not allow the change. And if they allow the drop, they may not allow adding AP Bio if the class is full and/or it means rearranging your other classes. But certainly ask.
For colleges, it won;t matter at all.
Or I would recommend taking Honors Chemistry sophomore year, then physics, and as a senior taking AP Bio/CHem/Physics
You would need to contact your school to see what is allowed at this point. Switching to a different AP could be an issue with space, having met with the teacher to go over summer assignment expectations etc.
