Is it okay to write my college essay about Buddhism?

I’ve been trying to brainstorm ideas for my common app essay, and the only one that feels right is writing about when I became a Buddhist freshman year and how it changed my perspective and character. I’m just a little nervous because I know a lot of people warn against writing about religion, but it’s not like I’ll be telling people to go believe in God, so would it be a good topic if the essay focused on my personal growth due to the practice instead of the religion itself?

Also, if it influences the answer, I’m trying to get into East Coast privates like Boston University, Northeastern, NYU, Syracuse, etc.

Thank you!!

Write about YOU, not religion.

Write about “how it changed my perspective and character” as opposed to trying to convert the reader, and you’ll be fine.
