Is it possible...1.0 GPA and?

Haha, just kidding, I don't really have a 1.0 GPA, but it's pretty bad - I have a 85%ish, or a 3.2-3.4 ish. This GPA is unweighted. SATs are 1400/1600, 2100/2400.

I am applying to several schools, more specifically NYU Stern (EDII), Carnegie Mellon's Tepper, Emory and a few more like RPI, Penn State, Drexel, etc.

After my father unexpectedly died a few hours after healthy release from a hospital, my life changed forever. This was shortly before I entered high school. I was a straight A student in middle school and was pretty much number one or two in my "class." I excelled in math as my father was a PhD in that.

I love technology. I completed several internships in the high tech industry, specifically website hosting and development. I also held three jobs in the industry, all with good remarks.

I own, right now, a five figure application development company. We own two patents under the USPTO. Our application is industry changing and has seen excellent growth. I also, along with my business partner, cater to private clients.

My responsibilities include corporate tax payments, credit management, and fiscal/legal information for the business. I am the CEO and it is a registered incorporation with a solid profile.

Despite my low GPA, does this give me a chance, specifically for NYU Stern, CMU and Emory?

Emory - Super reach due to GPA. Their average GPA is around 3.7 something?
NYU Stern - Very high reach due to GPA again. Average GPA is upwards of 3.7?
CMU - Big reach again still due to GPA.

Everything is based on GPA, purely?
9% NYU Stern had under 3.5 GPA.

where are you getting those numbers? I am considering applying to Stern as well, my GPA is only 3.2 UW but hey miracles happen i guess…

Businessweek, which is pretty bad, but it has to have some accuracy - not everyone at Stern, Tepper, etc had 3.5+.

CMU doesn’t use my freshman year grades, bringing the GPA up by 3-4%. And then if you only count Junior (3.65-7) and senior (4.0UW) my GPA is higher. Mainly freshman and a bit of sophomore that brought me down.

Do you know if say I am rejected from Stern, could I still choose CAS econ/comp sci and reapply ors omething?

I’m not 100%, I think Stern is the only NYU school that doesn’t defer to other schools, or maybe I am wrong. I’m sure a student can confirm.

You can only apply to one school at NYU. Gotta choose one school
to apply to for any given year.

You can only apply to one NYU schools. Stern may defer to LSP, but it’s rare.

Assuming your stats are true, 9% of the class has lower than a 3.5 GPA.
Stern has an acceptance rate of 23%?

Simply doing math, roughly 2% of applicants to Stern are accepted with GPAs lower than 3.5? Did I do that math correctly?

The above posters have GPAs ranging from 3.2-3.4?
If 9% had lower than a 3.5, what percent had a GPA lower than 3.4? What about 3.3? The percentage keeps getting smaller.

For schools like NYU Stern and Emory, you need the stats. It’s the other stuff that sets you apart. You have roughly a 2% chance or lower of getting into Stern or Emory.

Stern doesn’t defer to LSP. You cannot apply to more than one school at NYU each year.

You have amazing extracurriculars. The raw stats hurt your case though. If they choose to look past them and at your ‘hooks’, I say you’re golden.

Yeah, I’m hoping they see that :).

Do you know anyone that got in with a 3.3ish?

Do they recalculate grades? I assume so, as electives don’t really count. So do they add any weight for APs? I’m not sure what their published GPA is, is it purely unweighted?

2% out of 1,600 total accepted roughly means 32 students under 3.5. Maybe, just maybe…
