So I’m a junior in hs and these are my grades for 1st semester:
Art 1: B-
Integrated Math 3: B-
AP English: A-
Physics: C
Leadership: A+
AP US History: B+
SAT: 1100 out of 1600 (I have a chance in janurary to do better)
freshman and sophomore year I didn’t try which resulted in me getting 2 C’s in my transcripts, excluding the one in junior year. I plan on getting my grades up higher to at least a 4.0. I know I could do it it’s just that I go lazy 1st semester. But is it possible for me to get into cal poly slo If I improve my grades and SAT score?
Cal Poly will only consider your 9-11 grades and test scores - what is your intended major ?
Computer science
Not knowing anything else, I’d say it’s an extreme long shot. CS is one of the most selective admits at Cal Poly. The median SAT is over 1400 and the median 9-11 GPA is over 4.0. Do the best you can for the rest of the year, but make sure you have alternatives. Good luck.
I agree with @eyemgh, since CS has around a 10% acceptance rate and you need much more competitive stats. You might want to consider Software Engineering as an alternative (slightly easier admit), but again you need to have your stats in the ranges noted above. If you are a CA resident, there are 23 Cal States, 9 UC’s and numerous private schools that offer CS so keep working hard, do well in your classes and start researching other schools that will fit your needs.
I hate to pile on but, CS at CPSLO is pretty unlikely from where you are now. You should do your best this year and work on your SAT and definitely apply because the admission is based on more than GPA and SAT and the threshold varies year to year. I’d also encourage you to look at Chico, Sac State, SF State and, perhaps the other Cal Poly as options with solid programs that are more likely to admit you.
Good luck.
Maybe computer science is not your major? It seems that your struggle in math and physics while you are doing well in APUSH and AP English. Computer science is very math heavy a requires a passion. Have considered a liberal arts major? I think it may be worth your while
