I got a 2100 on the SATs (670 CR, 720 M, 710 W) and I have already signed up for the October SAT. I was wondering if it is possible to increase my scores by 150-200 points if I study during the summer?

I've also heard that colleges don't really care as long as its above 2100.. is that true? In that case, should I even bother to study more?

Also, I feel like once you score that high, it's a lot harder to improve. Any ideas on what I could do to get those last beloved 200 points?

Not true at all. 2100 and 2300+ are miles away. I don’t believe there is an SAT “threshold” beyond which retaking will not help at all. It’s more like it evens out after a while and increases are only slightly beneficial. But if there is a line i doubt it’s 2100 but more like 2300.

It’s very possible to go up 150-200 points. I would go so far as to say that if you study enough and get lucky you could get a perfect 2400. All it is is practice. For critical reading, do a lot of reading for pleasure and read sophisticated works. Also study vocab a lot because sentence completions are a sizable portion of the reading section. For math, a 720 is only like 4 problems off of an 800. Just keep practicing using the blue book. For writing, find a guide that will teach you basic grammar that you need to ace it. Often, people can just learn basic grammar and practice and get 800s.

It’s not a lot harder to improve once you get higher. I think it might actually be easier because you’re more self confident. I went from a 2270 in March to a 2370 in June so it is possible. Also, last year I got a 1950 on a practice and went up 420 points in a year so big increases are possible.

Good luck I really hope you get 2300+ this fall!

Oh hey goldring2012, we got the same PSAT score! I got a 195 for the PSAT and this is my first time taking the SAT (I did study though…). Thanks for your great advice!

Its totally possible. I went from an ~1800 last year on a practice test to nearly a 2100 this past December and expect a 2200+ by next year (based on the improvements I saw). So I think a 150-200 jump for you over the summer is totally possible. Give it your best shot because if you study, I doubt it will go lower; even a few questions more will boost your score by 50 points.

@OP: More than possible. I went up 100 points simply by sitting down the week before my second SAT and doing Writing practice MCs for 1 hr per day, each day in a week before the test. My writing score went up 80 points, and my math score also shot up 20 points too! Anything is possible!
