Is it possible to be invited to YES-W after being deferred Early Action round?

I’ve been reading about YES-W and I am curious if applicants who have been deferred SCEA could be contacted about this. Has anyone had experience with this situation?

Doubtful

Although technically possible I suppose, I HIGHLY doubt that this would happen. YES-W is for the top ~100 STEM kids out of the ~25,000 who apply regular decision, and to be frank, a deferred applicant didn’t even make the top ~700 out of ~5,000 who applied early. Stranger things have happened though.

^^ Agree with, although if you were named an Intel STS Finalist last week, that could do it for you.

^possible, but still highly unlikely.

As mentioned above, the students invited to YES-W are among the top 100 or so STEM kids among the regular decision applicants. In addition to being among the top 100, the second qualification for a YES-W invite is that Yale admissions is positive, based on the extraordinary qualities of the applicant, that the student was accepted at a competitive (Stanford, MIT, Harvard) institution during the early round and/or will be accepted regular. The purpose of YES-W is to help Yale win the top STEM kids away from other STEM schools where they were or will be accepted. Having already informed Yale, by applying early, that Yale is your top choice, I’d say that the chances of being invited to YES-W are infinitesimal.

Thank you all for your replies, they were very helpful!
