Hey, I’m an OOS, and I was wondering if there was some way of converting my residency status from my state to Michigan after 1 or 2 years of attending UMich- is this possible?
No…you don’t get instate tuition rates for only being a student at Michigan. You get the reduced tuition rates based on where your family lives (assuming you’re a dependent.)
Years enrolling at UMich does not count for the requirement for residency. Otherwise, all upperclassmen would be counted as in state.

Some universities have lenient residence requirements. Unfortunately, Michigan is not one of them. If you are not eligible for resident status when you apply, you will not be able to change your status later.
