<p>It’s not possible to change your netid, see [University</a> NetID Services: NetID FAQs](<a href=“http://uis.georgetown.edu/netid/faqs.html]University”>http://uis.georgetown.edu/netid/faqs.html). It is the case, however, that a while back NetIDs took a different form. Thus, for some faculty who have been around for a while, the NetID looks like lastnamefirstinitial.</p>
<p>I’m fine with this email its just that when giving it to someone, all these initials and random numbers seem very unprofessional, at least in my eyes. At Emory I could just do <a href=“mailto:name.lastname@emory.edu”>name.lastname@emory.edu</a> and I found that very nice.</p>
<p>You’re overthinking it, it’s only unprofessional if you use like a gmail address on your resume or something… netID is the Georgetown conventional way, no one is going to criticize you for being unprofessional…</p>
<p>It’s not like someone is going to think that you created the e-mail…and thousands of gtown students have applied for & received awesome jobs and internships with those ‘unprofessional’ netids.</p>
<p>^well, i’m not saying you wont get a job because of that kind of email address. I just think the name looks better and if someone has already taken the name, then add numbers.</p>
<p>Well, considering you will have to use your netid to do many many many things on campus and online, you would actually hate to have a longer version. You will realize once you have to start logging in to MyAccess and Blackboard (to sites that won’t remember your netid so you have to type it every time).</p>
