I heard about a guy who did his MD at USC and his MBA at Yale AT THE SAME TIME. How is that even possible??
Probably many courses of MBA are taken online and may be in summer they go to Yale in person for some classes and complete all requirements.
In many places it will be 5 years and will allow to do 1 year in between all MBA courses.
Same thing very common for MD students to do MPH. Many places it is 5 years and few places it is 4 years but you need to start prior summer itself to start MPH (before MD) to complete MD/MPH.
The two people I know who pursued two degrees at two schools at the same time did it by being all-in at only one school at a time. None of the classes were online. And by special arrangement, a few classes for one degree satisfied requirements for the other.
I know quite a few more who did two degrees at one school (simultaneously). In most cases, it still followed the same format. (If you look at a JD/MBA program, you will see how it works.) The coordination in this case was much easier.
ahh got it. Thanks!
Typically MD/MBA students take time off from medical school to complete their MBA coursework/requirements. (Educational LOA.) Either between MS2 and MS3 (between the didactic portion and clinical portion of the MD–which is when MD/PhD students typically complete their PhD coursework & research) or between MS3 and MS4 (after the basic clinical rotations have been completed and the students has identified their specialty choice, but before sub-I and subspecialty rotations and residency applications have begun.)
To take time off from med school to complete a second degree requires advance permission and special planning with the Dean of Students at their med school.
Typically a MD/MBA student will have a undergrad background in economics, business or a related field so that they already the foundational knowledge to enter MBA classes. If they are lacking the appropriate background, they may be asked to remediate any lacks they have before they begin their MBA coursework–which may mean taking some undergrad/grad courses concurrently with their med school classes.
