my current interviewer kinda lives far away from me and i know one that lives about 2 miles away from me

You can certainly request a change, but whether or not it’s granted is probably going to depend on how far “kinda” is.

Just asked for same thing to mit office. They denied my request it was the guy or a waiver. You better have a killer reason for chance. My interviewer was 600km away from my home.

When I applied, I had to travel about 500 miles to an interviewer. I called and asked them, and they said it it was too hard to get to they would waive the interview, but there was no way I could switch. I ended up making the effort, figuring it would be worth it in the end.

eh. based on your experiences i guess 50 miles is nothing

It works the other way too. Most students who request a change of EC from the admissions office do not get one, though if they live nowhere near an EC, the interview will be waived without penalty.

If you live a long way from your EC, do let your EC know about it. I regularly (a least a dozen a year) swap interviewers around in my region for the convenience of my EC’s and the candidates, particularly when the MIT admissions computer screws up in EC assignment which it does sometimes with internationals. But I do this after hearing from the EC about it, not from a candidate.

With interviews within the US, the computer screws up much less frequently, and you probably really have been assigned to the closest EC.

It’s possible to meet somewhere in the middle.

Like, at a Starbucks :D
