Is it possible to get into a UC (UCSD, UCI, UCLA, Berkeley specifically) from ASU?

I have been wondering what to expect when I apply. My major is mass communication/media studies. For reference, my high school GPA was 4.0 and I was a varsity athlete with AP classes etc. until junior year when I had housing insecurity issues and was basically homeless and my grades were not impressive. I went to a CC and had a year of very bad grades (like a 1.8 GPA) until I got a second job and an apartment (which meant the end of the housing insecurity, it lasted like three years) and got into ASU online through Starbucks. I have a 3.8 GPA now while also working almost full time. I have a bunch of recent community service and sports/awards/extra curriculars from high school. What do you think the chances are of them taking my situation into consideration AND accepting someone from ASU instead of a CC? Sorry if this is not the right place to ask :o

You mentioned ASU online…do you live in AZ or CA? If you live in CA, then you have nothing to lose by applying. It sounds like you’re not getting a lot of help from your parents.

If you’re out of state, then forget it. Students who go to these CA schools from out of state do it because they’re living off their parents. If you’re struggling to live on your own in AZ, it’ll be 10 times worse in CA, and that’s assuming you could even get the financing to pay for the out of state tuition, which you won’t without your parents co-signing.

Community college transfer will have priority over you since cc students have nowhere to go after they completed their 2 year requirements. Also, this was the intent and part of the CA master plan.

The main impediment to admission will probably be the year of 1.8 college GPA.

Yes I live in California and used to attend a California community college. I go online at ASU only because it is free if you work at Starbucks.
