So I am a senior who is going to the local community college and was wondering if I worked hard could I get a scholarship somewhere down the line despite my mediocre high school grades?
When I say senior I should clarify I mean high school senior.
Yes, it is possible. There are transfer scholarships for those going from a cc to a 4 year university. There are some department scholarships or special major scholarships for engineers, scientists, military, art, drama, etc, both from the schools and from outside sources. Check at the FA or admissions office at your cc and at the 4 year schools.
These are all very competitive. Some states have good articulation agreements (California, Florida are two good ones).
Most scholarships are for high school seniors/college freshmen.
But there are some scholarships for community college transfers, you will have to ask the community college transfer advisor about them. Some are for members of CC honor society.
There is the Jack Kent Cooke transfer scholarship.
Possible but extremely unlikely.
The county we live in has scholarships for HS seniors as well as current college students, maybe yours does too.
If you mean can you try to get scholarships for your tuition at your community college, the answer is probably yes! I applied for and received a $1000 scholarship while I was going through a nursing program at a community college. It was not before I started, it was during the two years. Find out which ones are available (can probably find this information on your college website) and see what you may be eligible to apply for.
If you are in California, you may be eligible for CalGrants.
