Is it possible to jump 200+ points on the new SAT if I got a 1230?

I am going into my junior year of high school and have taken a bunch of practice SAT tests, not the real one though.

I’m aiming for schools like NYU and Georgetown, but with these scores it’s almost nearly impossible. My GPA is above 4, and I got a 5 on the AP Calc Exam this past year.

I’m wondering if I can make this jump and how to better prepare myself for this test. Any suggestions?

I have already invested in SAT Kaplan books and currently working my way through it.

Thanks!

It’s possible, sure. Go for it.

Try a practice ACT (you can get a free one from the ACT online to download). You may do better on the ACT than the SAT.

Going into junior year, you have lots of time to accomplish your goal. And even if you fall short, you will still have improved your overall chances. Or maybe you will exceed your goal – you can’t find out without trying so you might as well do it.

I recommend (as I often do) that you completely master the 4 released practice tests and any other official tests that happen to get released in the coming weeks and months. Pretend you were going to have to teach a class – get yourself to the point where you can thoroughly explain any question (more than one way, when that is possible). It takes time to get to this point, but not an insane amount of time. And you don’t waste time preparing for things that are never on the real test.

Good Luck!

The more practice the more likely the higher score. Another thing, mt D’s college counselor told us the new SATs are running maybe 70 points higher than then old SAT math and verbal, so the SAT ranges may move upward. If you do not get your SAT or ACT scores much higher, consider there are dozens of great LACs that are test-optional, that will look at your GPA and class rigor and ECs. A few larger schools are also test-optional, like Wake Forest and Brandeis.

With practice, anything is possible. Use khan academy and you’ll see improvement

Or take the act which imo is so much easier. I had to study hard to get a 770 on the math sat but I easily got a 35 on act math without studying
