Is it possible to prepare for all four AP Science courses?

Hello!

I have a friend who is very passionate about science.

His high school does not offer any AP Science and AP Mathematics, so he decided to

self-study AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics B, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus BC, and AP

Stats. Is this even possible?

He seeks my advice! What should I give to him?

All in one year? If so, that’d be really tough.

Sent from my HTC VLE_U using CC

Self studying 7 APs! Aw hell no! If this is his first year self-studying, tell him to pick one or MAYBE two APs. AP Bio, Environmental Science are easy. AP stats is easy if your friend is a math guy. Calc might be easy if he is in a high school calc class. It is very important to get help from knowledgeable teachers (even if they don’t teach the AP, they can help). If you have any questions about selfing AP Bio, I would be happy to help.

I too think of self-studying some AP Environmental Science. I already took AP Bio and AP Chem, and I am currently taking AP Physics B and AP Cal…My friend is numbering beast. He was one of USAMO finalist…

Anyway, I just found out that my school prohibits students from taking the AP Exam without taking the corresponding AP course at school! I thought College Board allows students to take the AP Exam even if they did not take the equivalent courses at their high schools? Should I tell school AP coordinator about College Board’s statement?

^Yes you should. A lot of people self-study. It is legal and permitted. The only thing stopping you from taking the test is the school

I wouldn’t self study more than two. If this person wants to die, be my guest. Then again, if you have strong backgrounds in the sciences ur gonna selfstudy then go for it.

I second that.

I am planning to self-study the AP Environmental Science with my friend. However, my school does not like students to take AP exam without taking the corresponding class. (my school does not offer AP Environmental Science course…) I know that CB allows students to take AP Exams even without taking the classes. Should I notify the school with CB’s statement or should I contact other schools?

Notify CB. at least try. then go to other schools. but it would be a pain to try and find the classroom on test day in an unfamiliar school

It’s probably very possible if your friend has a strong background in math/science and does not have too difficult a workload. i.e., I’m taking AP Bio, Phys B, Compsci this year and selfstudying Phys C, Chem, Calc BC and it’s going well so far (not to mention a few other AP/IB courses I’m taking, and I still have a life). I guess that’s b/c I’m a math/science guy, and I really enjoy all of these courses.

gl to your friend. hopefully no overloading though. i recommend against taking stuff like envirosci unless your friend is actually interested in the subject (being interested in a subject makes an AP like 600% easier)
