I've been doing fairly well through my college experience however this last semester I received a grade in one of my major course requirements, the grade is a C and I know that hinders my chance of getting into UCLA which is my first choice. My community college doesn't allow you to retake a class that you've gotten a C in. Can I start over at another community college? I know that ridiculous and I probably won't do that I was just curious. WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS C THOUGH?!

You need to provide transcripts from all colleges attended to the schools to which you apply as a transfer. Starting over wouldn’t hid the C.

Is this a serious question?

I mean you could literally start over at another school by taking every single class over again, and not reporting your prior school on your application.

You can’t start over from scratch and not report your current grades to UCLA. As long as your other grades are As/high Bs, the C won’t affect your GPA that much.

I would explain why you got the C - I’m pretty sure you can do that in your personal statement or essay or whatever it is that UCLA requires.

If it was your first quarter/semester and you got the C you could write that it was hard to adjust in the beginning but that you got better grades in the following semester/quarter and that shows that you really want to learn, etc.

If it was in your major then you can tell them that this is the only class you struggled with so far but you really want to still major in bla bla because it really interests you and you have bla bla reasons that show your interest.

As long as it’s the only C I think you’ll be fine if you explain it well enough.

You can also just ask someone from the department of your major at UCLA if your chances of getting in will be affected and you could ask them for advice.

OP

I wonder if you could re take the class through independent studies or what have you later on down the line. Maybe during a summertime break? If it is a core class you could look at BYU Independent studies or someplace equally as legit. Then you could submit your transcript from there along with your community college transcript so that the admissions folks see that you gave yourself a clear second shot at the class.

You can definitely retake that class and you should! Go above whoever tells you no and communicate your goals and dreams.

And you could start over clean at another community college, but that is so unnecessary.

ChadAgrawal,

The OP can take whatever classes he wants wherever he wants, but he can’t “start over clean”. Whenever a person applies for admission to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, that person must send official copies of their transcripts from every college or university that they have ever attended. The places the OP applies to will see all of his or her grades. But one C is not a big deal. Many applicants will have even uglier transcripts.
