I graduated from high school this may with my final grades being A’s and B’s and a 3.4 GPA. I started taking a remedial class in Valencia college so that I wont be too behind on my math credits. I start as a full time freshman this fall term taking
5 classes: - Intro to humanities
U.S. Government
English Comp 1
Fundamentals of speech
Intermediate Algebra
I’m really disappointed in myself for not getting accepted to any state universities and only having community college as my most reasonable option. I really wanted a change in my life, its like my mind and soul is craving to challenge myself into doing something completely new and ill work my hardest to achieve that goal. FSU is the university that I want to go to, its my first option. but I’m just wondering if they would accept me since I saw on their website that the application deadline for the spring 2016 term is in November 1 and my fall classes end in December 20, so I wont be able to send in my final transcript on the deadline. Is this all possible? I just want to focus on myself and my studies and achieving all the goals that I’ve put upon myself that I know I can achieve. I also want to retake the sat and act to get higher scores since the other times I took them my scores were pretty low and not on par with the schools required scores. Please help me!
To be accepted as a transfer with under 60 credits, you would have to also meet the freshman application criteria: GPA, course rigor, and SAT/ACT scores from high school.
If you weren’t accepted to any state university, odds are very low you’d meet that criteria to be accepted to FSU, which means that you wouldn’t be accepted as a lower-division transfer.
You would be best suited to stay at Valencia, get your AA, and then transfer when that is finished. You would not have your application based on any of your high school stats, and as long as you kept a 3.0 GPA while earning your AA, you would have a very high chance of acceptance into FSU.
Stay at the Community College…save your money. Take all pre-req’s at a CC, complete and earn your AA then transfer. As long at you have a 3.0+ and have your AA you’ll easily be accepted. There really is no rush to transfer and dump all your money on taking the same exact pre-req type of courses at FSU when you can take them at a fraction of the cost at a local CC.
I agree with @glasssheart. You can get involved at Valencia and have fun. Try to keep your GPA up and see if you can qualify for Phi Theta Kappa. Before you know it two years will have gone by and you’ll be a junior at FSU (or another university).
The other option that I can think of, if you really need a change of scenery, is to transfer to a community college closer to FSU. People go to Santa Fe as an “on ramp” to UF. Not sure what is near FSU but you might want to look into it. Of course you would have living expenses, etc.
