Is it recommended that I take Algebra 2 and Honors Geometry in my sophomore year?

I ask this question because I have an extra slot on my sophomore schedule and I don’t know what to take. My school does not offer APs and only offers Honors in 3 courses: English, math, and Spanish. Students below 9th grade can’t take Algebra 1; it’s against our school board’s policy. (My school system is terrible… Just saying.)
I’d love to get ahead in mathematics since I’m so behind. In Honors Algebra 1 last year, I passed the class with a 103% percentage (one marking period I achieved a 105%); I never made below a 100 on a test or quiz. Math is my weakest subject, but I take my studies into serious consideration and study hard. I’m always the top in my class.
Would Algebra 2 and Geometry be too rigorous to take together my sophomore year? My schedule is quite pathetic, and I would take more challenging classes if offered, but my schedule is as follows:

Algebra 2 (debating)
Biology (Honors/AP not offered)
H/PE/Driver’s Ed
World History Pt. II (Honors/AP not offered)
Honors English 10
Honors Geometry
Honors Spanish III

Learning is my passion, and although my classes aren’t impressive, it’s just not my fault. If offered, I’d do a lot more. :frowning:
Thanks for all replies!

Well, you seem really motivated, and since math is your “weakest subject” and you still got a 103, I’d say go for it.

Yes, considering your grade in algebra1 and your desire to move faster, I think this is a great idea for you. It shouldn’t be that hard to take those two courses concurrently–some students do that at our school.

I’m sort of in the same boat. I love learning but my school does not offer AP and only 3 honors (freshmen English, which they just added so I couldn’t take it., geometry, and algebra 2). So what I am trying to do is double up on classes to make my schedule more rigorous. I only had this idea this year, so I took honors geo. alone. I regret not doubling with A. 2. I say do it!

Definitely go for it. Your grades are fantastic, and I wouldn’t say you are weak in math at all.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! My guidance counselor tried putting up a fight, but I am now enrolled in both Algebra II and Honors Geometry. I also have an A in both.
