is it this hard?

to transfer to uc's with biological science major?
i have all my schedule filled up for the next 2 years.

<a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/upper/untitled-10.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/upper/untitled-10.jpg</a></p>

and even for those 2 years, i'm still not done with the IGETC and major requirements.
i want to be safe for all UC's , i want to go to UCLA, and i want to do pre-med.
but if i can't do it as a biology major, i'll switch to some other easier major.
any suggestion?

i'm going to valley college right now

max units for fall and spring is 18, and for winter and summer is 8-10.

why are you taking Spanish?

1.because i live in los angeles, and believe i would benefit from the language.
2. it’s in Area 3, section B, of the IGETC for Humanities.

oh I see. Well if you took 2 years of a foreign language in high school, I wouldn’t waste my time taking a language class. It’s just going to take up space.

Besides, if you look at the IGETC for Valley college, only Spanish 3 and up count for IGETC Area 3. Being a bio major demands enough pre-reqs as it is, it’s pointless to take classes you don’t need.

Did you place into Math 120 when you took the placement test?

I think you need to evaluate what you exactly want to do

If you want to transfer and get into medical school, I’d say major in whatever will get you a high GPA and you are somewhat interested in. Pre-meds choose the biology route because the lower division course work (biology, chemistry, physics, etc…) satisfy medical school requirements. The downside is that the competition is cutthroat and not for the faint of heart. Either way, you’ll need to complete these requirements whether or not you’re a biology major. I think the general consensus is that taking these courses are “easier” at a CC (not to mention cheaper). Therefore, I think it’s wise to complete all these requirements during your stay at CC, even if it means spending a third year. However, you can transfer under whatever major you please, get your bachelors, and then go back to a CC and complete any remaining requirements for medical schools (I’ve met quite a few students who did this).

If your dream is to go to UCLA then complete IGETC (while not a requirement, it satisfies the breadth requirements needed to transfer), most if not all major pre-requisites (all if you’re shooting for an impacted major such as biology), and TAP (extra insurance for admission).
