Is it too late to send Rice a letter of intent?

Rice is my first choice, and I'd love to send a letter of intent. I wanted to mail it, but with decisions coming out in less than 2 weeks, I'm wondering if it is too late.

Wondered the same thing… I wrote one yesterday, but I am planning to send it out if I get waitlisted… 90% sure they already Made a decision…

yes. they asked for all updates/etc to be sent by march 1st, iirc.

Yup its too late for consideration

I’m not sure that sending a letter of intent is of any benefit in general. It’s too easy to just send them to any school you applied to. It’s sort of like “I’m desperate, accept me please.” You’ve already indicated your intent by applying :-).

It is appropriate though to send updates (all at one time) if you are waitlisted or deferred. That indicates continued interest as well as reminds them how awesome you are.

^ I kinda agree… My friend’s really been pushing me to send out that email, but I think I am waiting until I get waitlisted to send (which hopefully won’t happen).

What is a “letter of intent”?

^ Basically a letter informing them that they’re your top choice, of how interested you are in them and how you (totally?) intend to enroll if accepted.

Do applicants often send such letters, and do schools pay attention to them?

Not sure how common it is to send them.

I doubt a school would pay attention to a simple “letter of intent.” The key is working your “intent” into a letter that also talks about your senior year post-application (grades, new extracurriculars) as well as your continued interest in Rice (maybe you visited and it really caught your interest, or perhaps you learned something interesting about Rice that you didn’t know before).

I don’t see ny real cost to sending it, I would like to think they wouldn’t reject you for showing enthusiasm

I think I’m going to wait and see if I am waitlisted. :)

^ at this point, it’s about your only real option. don’t think they would run over to the maybe pile to dig out your app and put in the accept pile just because you said you would attend there :-)

i think everyone is too nervous for decisions :-)

Yea… decisions out in ~9 days :)

I’m soooo excited!
I don’t know how to pass the time though.

^ by studying for the upcoming test and doing your homework :-)
