Is it true that colleges are not deferring enrollments this year?

A few weeks ago, a boy in my class told me that the reason he could not attend Rice, NYU, Carnegie Mellon and University of Chicago was because no colleges this year ( the ones he applied to as listed above) were allowing students to defer enrollment for a year and because of 'health' reasons, he could not attend the universities mentioned. Is this true or is he just lying to me?

Bump. The reason I am asking this is because the guy was really obnoxious about it and I feel like he was lying just to make me feel worse. Is there any truth to this? He says the only reason he is going to CSU Long Beach is because of health reasons and because his colleges are not deferring enrollments.

I’m pretty sure that’s bull. I know a kid who’s deferring from Emory for a year, and besides, like you I doubt that there would be a reason for any schools to specifically not allow deferral this year when they do other years.

I can tell you unequivocally that at least 20+ to-be-Barnard students are deferring enrollment for a year…that’s from the accepted student’s day

Does anyone know specifically the defer-enrollment policies for the mentioned schools? ( U of Chicago, NYU, Rice, Carnegie Mellon)

Student said that those schools, among others to which he was “accepted” were not allowing him to defer enrollment.

I am under the impression that UChicago is allowing students to defer enrollments this year. Don’t quote me on this though.
