Is it true the envelope gives it away...?

My friend told me that Stanford puts "Contragulations" on the envelopes of their acceptance letters... is it true?
Cause that'd be horrible! There wouldn't even be any build up of suspense that comes with tearing open the envelope and pulling out the letter!

That's what I heard...(un)luckily, they're also doing email notifications - I hope the subject line doesn't give it away; now THAT would suck.

Yes, that is true.

how anticlimactic....

We need to tell them not to email us...An envelope always gives it away. Thin/thick...

I heard of some schools that write "Yes, it's the big envelope" on the admissions envelope...haha

do they also write "No, it's the small envelope" for the rejection letters?

haha I sure hope not...

wont they post it online as well?

well I heard (from the same friend) that Princeton sends the same sized envelope for both ED rejection and admission... so you never know.
And I don't think they will give it away in the e-mail subject line for Stanford whether or not it's an acceptance or rejection... but still though, for those of you who don't want to open the e-mail and choose to wait for the mail... that really sucks, esp if you don't see the "congratulations" on the envelope. I would HATE that!

^well you’d still have a chance of getting deferred, so it won’t totally kill your chances.

oh i'd be really sad

Imagine if they screwed up and you got a "congratulations" email with a rejection letter in it.

if you guys have Gmail. goto your preferences and turn off "snippets", unless you want to find out your decision (via 100 1st characters of email) before even opening it!

Are you 100% sure they are emailing decisions?

do they put anything on the deffered envelopes? ... like "maybe" or "congratulations! you passed round one... here's round two..."

^ yeah I was wondering about that too. "You may have just earned admission!!! See inside for details."

haha. there may or may not be a prize inside!

Last year it didn't say congratulations on the outside of the envelope. However, it was big (as opposed to the small rejection letters) - when the mailman handed it to me, I immediately knew I got in.

I always though it'd be funny if they mailed out rejection letters in the big envelopes, with a little note inside saying "Sorry, we ran out of small envelopes."

oh gosh... that'd be torturous...
"sry, we ran out of small envelopes cause there were too many rejects this year"
hope that NEVER happens

Last December the EA acceptance envelopes said Congratulations in red on the outside.
