Well...
Applying for 9th (current 8th)
Half White, Half Japanese
I went to an international school in Japan for 6th grade.
Speak conversational japanese.

The thing is, I didn't take school seriously in 6th and 7th (got B's and C's), but I have a really studious attitude in 8th grade. SO if I get A's in 8th grade, and score 90+ on SSAT (which I study everyday for 45 minutes) do you think it's worth applying to Andover?

I play Lacrosse and tennis, (gotta pick one)
I play piano and trumpet.
I do drama at school,

Also,
what kind of stuff do they ask on the interview?
Essay tips??
thanks guys!

My other choice would be Noble and Greenough, but I'm shooting for Andover!

It’s always worth it. You seem well rounded, but have you been dedicated to all four of those extra curriculars? Those boarding schools want depth…so if you’re reeally skilled in one, be sure to emphasize it.
You have a chance of course, but take some time to think about what exactly makes you unique, and why you think Andover will help you.

Search the threads for essays and interviews, there’s a whole wealth of information. ((: Be sure to come across as a person with an interesting outlook on life and a good sense of self.

And don’t be too concerned about grades, though you’re reallyyy going to have to prove yourself on the ssat. But I’m sure that’ll go well, along with straight As it’ll show schools that you’re willing to improve yourself.

I’m applying to andover too…so nervous. (: good luckk!

Funny enough, I’m in the same boat. Half white half asian, thought grades in middle school was a waste of time till 8th grade. What I heard though was that as long as you get a high SSAT it balances out your grades - it shows the school that you are a bright student and you have learning potential.

If you have to choose between lacross or tennis, choose lax.

High SSATs and low grades may show that you’re bright, but they can also brand you as lazy. Work on those grades, but remember that schools will only have the first semester (or perhaps first two trimester) grades to look at. That may not be enough to convince them you’re a serious student.
