Hi, i'm applying for 10th grade at Andover. I'm currently studying in England at one of the top boarding schools there, but i am originally from Korea.

Firstly my average grade at school for my finals this year was an 85 percent.
Although this doesn't seem very high, the marking scheme in England and America is different so in America my grade would actually be a very high A. Do you think that Andover will know this conversion? I was also the runner up for our school cup for endeavour last year.

At school i am a Maths exhibition, i've gotten a gold medal on the maths challenge for two years and this year i progressed to the grey kangaroo round.

I won a few competitions at school with my poems but in Korea i won two national prizes in two consecutive years for poetry and i'm part of the Korean poetry association. My English is really good and my essays are usually full marks.

I also took part in the Glaxo Smith Klein project for energising the school and i am now an industrial cadet and because my school team came first overall i have some other qualifications though i can't remember them right now.

For music, I sing, play the piano and the violin. i am a music scholar at my school and until middle school where i moved to a boarding school so i couldn't compete, i competed in various North London Festivals, mostly coming first. I've been playing the violin and piano for around 5 years and i took my grade 8 for both instruments after two years of playing and got a distinction.
This october i'm also taking my diploma for the violin which is basically a teaching degree. I've also been part of the National Children's Orchestra for England for two years and for the last year, I was a scholar. I was awarded best performer at my school and i was a soloist in our school musical.

For Sports, at my school it is very hard to do both because of the time clash but i did represent my house team for javelin and i am the second best at long jump and discus in my year. i also got my second level black belt taekwondo after two years of learning.

I also do ballet and i am on grade 5. I performed in my school's annual dance show.

I've been doing charity work and i hosted a charity concert for WWW raising over 1000 pounds.

I really want to get in to Andover... Do you think i have a chance?

I think you have a good chance. You have the grades, apparently, and you have good awards and extracurriculars. It really depends on how well you test/interview. No matter how good you are on paper, a bad interview can mean the end of the road. This being said, the most important thing is that you don’t stress yourself out too much. Andover’s a great place, but it’s not the only place. If it is meant to be, it will happen. If you have any questions about classes, student life, etc. let me know

Hi Andover2015 thank you so much :). I do have a few questions. Because I go to school in England, not a lot of people know about the admissions process in America. Do you know about what time I should send in my application, when I should sit my Saats ect? Also this is quite a random question but about how many Brits are at Andover? Thanks xxxx

Carrow, have you actually looked carefully at the admissions webpages for Andover and any other schools you’re interested in? They’ll provide answers for all these questions that you’re asking – the timeline of when you need to submit your application, what the application consists of, etc. And it’s SSAT (not SAAT) – stands for secondary school admission test. As for your questions about the essays, there is an essay portion on the SSAT exam, but it doesn’t really count for much. The essays that you see people talking about on this forum are the essays that the schools require you to write as part of your application – nothing to do with the SSAT essay. Again, if you go to the admissions webpages, you will find the applications, which will contain essay topics. These are important and you should spend a significant amount of time trying to write the best essays you can (and make sure you follow the directions carefully on how long they’re allowed to be).

To help answer your previous question, I know for sure that there are at least two Brits at Andover (there may be more).
On the contrary to what soxmom has said, the essay on the SSAT is as or more important than the SSAT score itself. She is very right, however, that your essays on the formal Andover application are very very important, so take care when you are writing them and follow the guidelines! :)

Hey carrow2 are you attending at eton or westiminster, harrow something like that? lol

I am also applying for andover for the fall 2014 as well.

I wuold like to give me some opinions about me.

Unfortunately i am not american/english i am living in italy and i am studying to a public school but i am originally from romania.

My school’s grade are all A/A+ (the maximum grade idk which is in america if is either A ro A+). I am the founder of a local chapter in my city and we do lots of activities, hopefully i will get a 85/90% at SSAT, I am also pretty good with english, as in italy we do not have an ap courses and stuff like that i cannot show my academic potential, but i am pretty good in math as well, I am planning to get into MENSA(Mensa is the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world) this summer, i am not gifted or any of this type but i guess i am kind of a genius cause my IQ is way above the average. can this be helpful?
i swim,do karate and skisince i was 4 but i didn’t won any of national prices, and unfortunately i do not play any kind of instrument i just played for 3 years the flute and i was in the school orchestra nothing compared to carrow2.

could you give me some advices for both interview and essay?

Carrow2, I don’t mean to steal your thread from you, but I have a question. Does Andover see my 8th grade report card if I’m applying for 9th grade. If they do, If everything else if the admission process is good, but I have 2 Bs, will it greatly affect my chances?
