I’m currently an out of state rising senior planning to apply to Georgia Tech and UVA. I just ran some net price calculators on these colleges and Georgia Tech in particular seems to have a pretty hefty price that my family most likely won’t be able to afford. Regardless, should I apply anyway?
These colleges are not necessarily my top choices (of course I have in state colleges in mind), but it would be nice to have some options out of state. I’m just thinking about how I would put a lot of effort on these applications, but it will all be for nothing. I do have some outside scholarships I’m planning to apply for, but they definitely won’t be able to cover Georgia Tech.
(In case it means anything, my SAT is 1420 and UW GPA is 3.93. Planning on 1500+ on the next SAT!)
Both are state school that do not provide (much if any) aid to OOS students. If you can’t afford them based on the NPC it is probably not worth the application. Also GT has a much lower OOS admission rate. If you post your stats, anticipated major, and budget people here can suggest schools that might be better for you to consider.
Why waste the money and effort on a school you can’t afford and isn’t even high on your list? Go for schools with NPC in budget or schools you have a high chance of getting enough merit scholarship.
No, find schools that are affordable. Don’t waste your time and resources applying to schools that you’d have to decline if accepted. Why have the heartbreak.
