is it worth even applying ED?

So basically, Northwestern has been my dream school since I was a sophomore, and while I've tried my hardest in school I feel as though I don't compare at all to anyone on this board nor do I have a chance in the world, even with ED. So just be honest. I'm pretty lopsided when it comes to my stats, with better ECs than academics:

Hispanic female from Kentucky:
GPA: 3.4
ACT: 26 (retaking it again in Oct. Should bring it up to a 27/28, My highest scores are a 32 and 30 in English and Reading, but the Math section brings it down)
APs: 4-Human Geography, 4-Psychology

Senior Year Schedule:
A) CP English IV
B) AP Stats
C) AP Art History
D) Adv. Public Speaking/Adv. Creative Writing
E) Adv. Ancient Cultures/ Ceramics
F) Life Choices/Sacred Questions (required)
G) CP Journalism II: Yearbook II (Chief Photographer)

EC's:
-Held down a job for the past 6 months. Usually work 26 hours, sometimes up to 40.
-Founded the Diversity Committee and will be on the executive board this year.
--The Diversity Committee is a group of students who share one thing in common: we all want to help spread diversity at our mostly white, catholic, upper-middle class school. It's a huge time commitment and my biggest passion.
-Student-Y for junior/senior year. Plan on going to KUNA (Kentucky United Nations) this year. I couldn't afford it last year. Also plan on attending YMCA leadership conferances. (Go For It! and LTC).
-Ran Cross Country for 4 years.
-Varsity Ice Hockey Freshman Year.
-Track Sophomore year.
-Lacrosse junior/senior year.
-Tech Club junior/senior year
-Technology Leader sophomore year/senior year.
-Piano for 6 years.
-Babysit regularly and highly rec. by the community.
-Attended Indiana University's Summer Journalism Workshop in Photojournalism.
-Participating in nationwide journalism competition in Nov. and am anticipating to do quite well. Also entering some photography in the journalism contest as well.

Community Service:
-100+ Hours at Norton Suburban Hospital as a lab runner.
-20 Hours at the House of Ruth, a center for low-income AIDS victims.

-I've done a lot of different little projects with computers and movie that I made/edited has been chosen by Microsoft and could possibly be showcased on their website as a demo.

-Taken mostly Advanced/APs, the only lower courses are either in math or science, my weakest subjets.

-I want to major in film and have an extensive history with film. One of the reasons I love Northwestern is because of its strong film program and their great academics.

Thanks a lot.

You're fine...college admissions at these top universities are always a bit of a crapshoot, but I would say that, especially with all your activities and film experience, you stand a chance. If you are really interested in NU, it is always worth an application...and your chances are even better ED. I would say go for it, especially as NU seems to be your dream school.

I mean, I had pretty good stats, but I was hardly a valedictorian...just present yourself as an intelligent, creative, well-rounded person. NU doesn't want a bunch of academic robots...it wants bright, dynamic, passionate students.

Best of luck!

If Northwestern is your dream school, it is definitely worth applying ED. You seem to have a pretty good idea of why you want to go to Northwestern, so make sure that comes across in your essays. Include little details that distinguish NU from other schools and show that you're applying ED for a reason. For instance, you could connect your volunteer work at the House of Ruth with PACPI, Dance Marathon's beneficiary this year. Make them see why Northwestern is the best place for you. Good luck!

Also, I've gotten the impression that NU's film program has an emphasis on the writing aspect, and your journalism credentials would definitely fit with that... See, don't leave it up to them to make these connections, because they might not.
