I live in CT and have got into CSULB, but should I go? Is it worth going to a commuter school?

Depends what your other options are!!

i wouldnt say neccesarily it’s a commuter school; all depends on the type of person you are. i’m not really a social type so dorming here and just going out to eat meals with my suitemates is good enough for me.

obviously if you got accepted to better school go for it, but if long beach has what yo uwant then do it. its a good school

I am from Southern California and CSULB is my number one college on my list of schools I’ve applied to for the Fall of 2012. Congrats that you’ve already been accepted, some people haven’t been accepted anywhere yet so you’re very lucky.
Some people do see CSULB as a commuter school but I don’t because I believe that I can get the same education in a CSU than any other school here in California. Though CSULB isn’t prestigious, it is a great college amongst others in California.
I do believe that if you see a better opportunity for other universities in or out-of-state than go for it but if you don’t mind moving out of your area and into California than CSULB can be a great option for you.
Best of luck to what you decide to do!

It’s pretty amazing you got in as an OOS. You should come to California for simply being a Laker fan! WOOH!

In all seriousness though, only you can decide what school is best for you. Take everything into environment, finances, family, and etc.

@tutudragon16- Hey! How’s it going? I hope your semester is going well and you have transitioned into college successfully.

@RockyHorror- Good luck in getting in! You should hear from CSULB very soon since you leave in SoCal.

The Power Of One: Thank you so much! You got accepted a year or two ago right? I remember reading your posts on different forums when I was stressing over getting into CSULB. Haahha.
I hope I get in too but all I can do now is wait patiently and comment on forums that give me a sense of hope. :)

since you live* not leave

Yes, two years ago, I’m a sophomore.

What are your stats by the way?

Very cool. Was it hard for you to get in??? What were your stats?
I have a 1460 on my SAT and I know thats low but I didn’t really study for the test. :o
I got a 22 on my ACT and I have a 3.59 g.p.a
Do you think I have good chances of getting into CSULB?
I haven’t heard anything yet from them but since I haven’t been rejected or accepted, all I can do is hope for the best, :)

I had a about a 3.8ish/4.3ish weighted and a 1870 on the SATs.

Honestly with your stats and your location, it could go either way. It’s hard to predict with CSUs, especially CSULB since those with qualified stats get denied in favor of students in the service area.

Just a little more waiting to go!

i had a 30 on thr ACT and 3.5 gpa and found out i was in around this time last year. i’m rooting for you rocky horror picture show XD

@power it’s going awesome! love the classes and everything seems so much easier than high school XD took a little adjusting to get used to not knowing anyone, but it’s alright. im probly going to dorm next year also

tutudragon16: Hahahha. Thank you so much! How is college life at CSULB, make any good friends your first year??? Did you hear of your acceptance in February of last year or early March and how close are you to the school? The only reason I’m worried is because I hear they’re accepting less freshmen and transfer students this year in total. I’m quite impatient because applications for Housing starts on March 1st for incoming freshmen and I want to know that I got accepted before that date so I can apply for the best housing. Hahahha.

Power of One: I know CSU’s are becoming dangerously skeptic about their admissions. Back in the day, a solid 3.0 would get you in to a good school but now you need to be like closer to 4.0 for consideration. Blah. It’s so horrible! The wait seems to be taking forever, hurry up CSULB!!! :)

@tutu- That’s great to hear! Yeah, freshmen year was a breeze in terms of academics. Don’t worry, once you take upper division classes and those for your major, it’ll get harder. Have you met some new people and made new friends?

@Rocky- I feel for you. Waiting is the hardest part!

@rocky
college life is okay. i actually go home on weekends to be with my boyfriend so it’s kinda harder for me to really get into events and such, but im sure if youre therre all the time its extremely easy to with all the evenths they have. i will say it depends where you dorm. im in international house and its really hard to get to know anyone outside your suite isnce the doors are always kep shut. so if you want mroe of a chance i reccomend tradiotnal halls or residence/parkside. i also heard my acceptance about last week of february i believe, and live an hour away from the school in santa clarita. so still southerb california but not service area i believe. but regardless first year is a bit of a change, but if you like making friends and go to events it shouldnt be hard at all.

@power
i have met some people so thats cool. baby steps XD im hoping making good friends gets easier as years go by

tutudragon16: Cool! I’m a shy person until I get comfortable with the people I’m around but I’m more like a shy/outgoing person at the same time. Hahha But I heard that the traditional halls aren’t that great but maybe people were just referring to the size of the rooms and not the community all together. I wanted to dorm at RLC or somewhere like that. We’ll see, first I have to get in before I begin to talk about my dorming situation.
But at least your enjoying your years at CSULB, you’re very lucky!!! Any advice for a incoming freshmen if I do end up going there?

Power of One: Yea I know. It’s the worst but I guess it’s better than being rejected, at least I have a small chance. I guess that I have to start looking on the brighter side of things. Hahha. :)

If you really want to go to the school then yes!
I was also accepted to Drexel with a $16000/year scholarship and to The University of Tampa with a $9000/year scholarship plus Florida grants. I am still planning on attending CSULB though.
Some things to consider are your financial need, is CSULB well known for your major, and if you are ready to move away from your family/friends.
It is mainly a commuter school but all of the freshman students that are from NorCal, OOS, and other countries will be on campus just like you.

/sorry for late reply.

but yeah advice would beee make sure you do housing app early if you want to get your first choice for housing. also dont be afraid to branch out and go do events. a lot of the times theyre just movie nights and i know earlier in the year we had a disneyland trip for dirt cheap tickets. also just dont get nailed by schoolwork of course XD im lucky college has taught me to be less procrastinaty than high school lolz

tutudragon16: Thank you for the advice. I am just hoping that they send me their decisions soon so I’ll have a chance to apply for housing early. If they wait until late March, I’m in trouble!
I heard about the movie nights and I’d definitely enjoy that since I’m a movie addict. Hahha. I will need to learn how to balance homework and fun better because as of now, it’s 97% homework and 3% fun in high school for me and it sucks! Well I’m glad you’re enjoying your time at CSULB because that gives me good hopes for the future. ;)

RockyHorror: you haven’t heard anything from CSULB? well this is my stats, i only have 1300 ish SAT and 3.8 GPA but i got accepted. compared to your stats you have a better shot at getting in to the school. so i hope you get in. See there! xD

@RockyHorror: I hope you get in!

@aelizarde: Congrats! Welcome to the Beach :D. Did you accept CSULB yet? What’s your major? I started as a bio major, but switched to Communicative Disorders recently.

Rainsonata: How did they let you change your major? I heard once they accept you into a major, you’re stuck. Are you still working on your lower division? I was considering switching to communicative disorders, and even picked it as a back up major on my application.
