Is it worth quitting what you've had for something you've begun to love?

Hi CC forum,

When it comes to EC's, I feel like a lot of my activities look a lot like a college checklist: I won't lie, most of them are. I have leadership positions in all of my clubs(math team, science olympiad, chinese club, class council, beta, mu alpha theta). I've honestly spread myself way too thin this year with the EC's, and I really want to make the right decision for next year as an upcoming senior.

I'll be heading off to Georgia Tech under a dual enroll, meaning I won't be in school almost all the time(expected first semester course load: diff eq, organic chem, modern biology).

As a junior, I'm obviously a little worried about how colleges are going to perceive this sudden change in my EC's: I've kept all my clubs strong from grades 9-11. But now it's almost impossible for me to keep all of these. However, a couple of my friends and I started up Robotics this year, and that's the only real club that I've ever felt the need to be so "involved" in. I don't know if it's passion, but this is the only club I feel like I want to keep around. Furthermore robotics allows for a flexible schedule, since I can come to the school at around 5:00 and still be able to contribute in a meaningful way. How do you think colleges will perceive this sudden change in my EC's?

Thanks for reading this post, and I would really appreciate any feedback :)

I don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem as long as you keep some of your old ECs around.

You’ve built up the other clubs and kept them going so far, it’s ok to now pass on some of that responsibility to other people and embark on a new adventure. I’m the same way, when I first become involved in a club I’m super passionate about it, but after holding a leadership position for a while I get a little jaded and look for other things to be passionate about.
EDIT: Don’t make yourself miserable trying to please colleges. As long as you’re doing something you love, they will see your passion.
