I'm looking to apply to top privates and UC's (Berkeley, LA) in these upcoming months. My question is, is it worth it to take CLEP exams if you already have 5's on corresponding AP exams? Or is it completely pointless?

If I do take the CLEP exams, I would be taking Biology, Precalculus, and History of the United States I and II.

completely pointless if a) you’ve already passed the corresponding AP, or b) the school you are applying to doesn’t take them. Look up the schools in

[College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool](http://www.collegeboard.org) and look under the SAT/ACT/CLEP tab to see if they accept CLEP. Most highly ranked schools don’t take them, but some take a few.

Depends on if the school grants credit for those AP exams, and if the CLEP courses will give you credit for the same or different courses.

If you can get credit for different courses than what the AP exams would give you, I would take them.

I think it’s a waste of time. Most schools don’t take them. I would spend the time and efford on the SAT IIs, ACT, SAT and APs.

But it is not a waste of time for those who are attending (or plan to attend) the almos 3000 colleges/universities who do grant credit for passing CLEP scores! Taking the SAT and/or the ACT will grant you absolutely NO college credit. Maybe a merit/academic scholarship (which is also great), but no credit.
