Is it worth taking over summer?

Pre-calculus. I'm a current freshman and will take pre-calc as a sophomore.
Is it worth taking over the summer.

My project math courses are:
10th- Pre-calc
11th- AP Calc BC
12th- MV Calc and Differential Eq'ns, AP Statistics

If I skip Pre-Calc, I have the option to take some of these classes senior year. These are also offered:

Linear Algebra (Must be taken with or after MV Calc and Diff Eq'ns)
Abstract Algebra (Must be taken with or after MV Calc and Diff Eq'ns)
Graph Theory and Combinatorics (Must be taken with or after AP Calculus or higher)

If I don't skip Pre-Calc, I might not be able to take some of these.

So the real question is whether or not I should go directly to AP Calc. I think it might be too difficult, but I need some opinions.

If you like math and feel that you can handle AP Calc, then sure. But you have to make sure that you understand everything in Pre-calc well and not skip over any topics, since you’re taking it over the summer.

Another thing I would like to ask is how I should go about studying it. Should I just crack open a book and study? Should I take some kind of course?

Well, personally I always think that self-learning is the best type of learning, but the choice is up to you. If you’re fine with paying for a course/tutoring, then go ahead. Either way, it’s good to have supplementary material and there’s bunch of free videos like Brightstorm and Khan Academy to help you.

Are you doing Pre-calc in the summer to get a credit or simply to skip to Calc?

Skip to Calc. I’ll have more than enough math credits by the time I graduate.

skip to calc. I mean, if u really love math and are good at it, you will definitely be able to self study pre cal during the summer. I am in pre cal now as a freshman, but many of the topics I have already learned in my middle school(in my home country). I really regretted that I didn’t finish pre cal the year before. However, it still depends on the school you go to, my school is not so strong at math, so pre cal is like a free A+ class and I don’t even need to study for it after class. If pre cal in ur school is really challenging, maybe u should consider take it instead of skipping it.

The Pre-Calc class is definitely challenging at my school, but it definitely prepares students well for AP.

Our AP class is pretty challenging too, but pre cal…hmm at least its not that hard for the asian students in my school. Just try to finish pre cal over the summer, it shouldn’t be that hard.

I was struggling with whether I should take chem or pre cal over the summer, but I later chose chem cuz it will open more options of science classes to me. Plus my school doesn’t have any higher level math beyond calc bc.
If you truly enjoy math, then take it. It will save you a lot of boredom if you weren’t challenged enough in your regular pace.

Doing precalc over the summer could go badly if you don’t learn it as well as you would during the year. If you want to, go for it, but don’t skimp on understanding.
