I was planning on taking SAT II US History in October with the intention of preparing over the summer, but I'm not so sure if that is too ambitious of me. The thing is that I took AP US History freshmen year, and the upcoming school year will be my junior year. Not sure how much of that I have retained, but I'm hoping Crash Course + AMSCO will suffice.

On top of that, I also have an internship over the summer (8 AM to 7 PM) and not to mention, a lot of summer homework for my AP classes. In addition, I was also planning on studying for SAT II Biology (retake) and the actual SAT I. (I honestly don't know how this is going to work with my schedule).

So, should I take it or not?

Since your summer schedule seems packed, do not take US History subject test unless you need a second subject test. Besides, reading Crash Course can be done within a week or two if you spend an hour a day on it. For AMSCO, it might probably take about a month if you spent an hour a day on it since reading the review portion of one chapter should take about 20-45 min.

I took the June Sat II US History after taking the AP class the same year and I found that I retained just about everything, as I got a 790. I didn’t study one bit for the SAT II, like literally I didn’t pick up one history book since the AP test. I found the MC questions on the SAT II to be about the same difficulty as the AP. I would suggest taking a practice test to see if you remember the information.
