My SAT score right now (single sitting) is
780 Math
790 Writing
680 Critical Reading
totals to 2250

I've been debating whether to retake or not. I am a rising senior and I wanted a 2300+ for colleges like Cal, UCLA, Caltech and Brown. If I retook, I would retake for the superscore and probably not even write the essay because I know I can't raise the 790. But the 680 is weighing my score down like crazy. =(

What do you guys say, should I retake?

I would go for it. The 680 honestly stands out like a sore thumb. However, you should still put effort into the writing since, if you get lucky, you could get a perfect depending on the curve. Same with math.

I thought UCs don’t superscore?

Thanks cheerios! You’re right about the chance of perfects. I guess I’ll actually try in the writing then For math, I was going to try anyways since the one error was a silly mistake anyways.
and you are correct, the UC’s don’t superscore. I was hoping my 2250 would suffice for UC’s and then use a 23+ for privates(super hope!)

bumppppppppppppppppp

with 2250, you’re not getting into Caltech, it’s all about test scores there. maybe Brown… the UC’s are a definite YES. good luck.

ugh great, time for that retake. @howmanyofme do you know if caltech looks at super scores?

Would a 34 ACT be acceptable for the ivies? 35e, 35m, 34w, 31s. I’m concerned about the ACT science score even though I have a 800 in math2, 800 bio and a 780 in Chem subject tests

My two-cents:
If you do re-take (I would if you usually score significantly higher on CR practice tests) I would recommend writing the essay, even if colleges do superstore. Seeing below a 600 on writing for a student who just had a 790 just raises eyebrows. (not in an “are they cheeting” sort of way, just in a “how motivated/capable of concentrating consistently are they”)
