Hi everyone, I am looking to ask for recommendation letters for next year's admission, and I plan on asking my journalism advisor for a humanities recommendation. I have done some research, but the results weren't very clear. Does anyone know of colleges where journalism is definitely NOT a humanities course? Thanks!

Journalism usually is not considered a humanities field.

Journalism is a trade.

Humanities = English, history, languages, arts, philosophy

Journalism would not qualify.

Journalism is categorized under English and writing so yes, it would qualify.

Would it help that my journalism teacher also teaches English? I’ve seen arguments for both sides, so would it be a good idea to contact the college right now? Thanks everyone for your input!

The happy medium:

Journalism is a pre-professional Humanities major. hehe

This is an, um, endless debate out there in the world. I’d say, for you, throw Journalism into the English camp and say it qualifies as a humanities.

A rec from a journalism teacher who did not teach you upper-level English could raise eyebrows at a most-selective.
