Even most sciences have little to do with the reality of evolution–or not. Chemistry, biochem, physics, would have little use for either theory in most practice. Now I suppose it could be a problem in portions of biology/zoology and geology.

It would be relevant to biochemistry, geology, paleontology, archaeology, etc. The only sciences it wouldn’t be relevant to are chemistry and physics as far as I can tell.

Grasping at straws here. He asked Palin specifically about the proximity of Russia to Alaska. She noted that you can see Russia from Alaska. Seems like she was just answering the question.

I am sure there are fine individuals who study there, but that does not make it a fine institution. Those are two different matters entirely.

Well, if they had geology, paleontology etc it might matter --but they don’t have majors in any of those. I don’t see much problem with biochemistry.

LU does field a nationally competitive debate team that regularly beats more highly regarded schools.

I read that article. I don’t believe that the tournaments that they are bragging about winning are particularly significant.

The league that is generally acknowledged as providing the most serious debate competition is The American Parliamentary Debate Association.

You might want to check out their current standings. Liberty is not even a participant.

Nope. The question was “what insight into Russian actions does the proximity of Alaska give you” and clearly she (and you) could not even understand the question. Nice try, really!

Thanks for reminding me that with all our troubles, idiots like this are not in charge now. Which sort of brings us back on topic ;)

Thanks Marsden! :)

Well this site seems to think it’s pretty significant and as I said–LU did beat many more highly regarded schools overall. Your site is a very different form of debate that is more just argument without preparation with just two person teams. Not what most think of as debate teams.

[National Debate Tournament Home Page](National Debate Tournament Home Page)

You can see this on Wikipedia. The Debate team is #1 in the nation…if you include JV. They’re really around 20th best.

Also, rejection of some of the sciences means rejection of most of the sciences. Its going to be impossible to get a science professor of reasonable quality if his bosses are going to doubt some of the basic foundations of science. If a Professor had multiple offers at schools on the same tier, wouldn’t they choose the place that doesn’t regularly wage war on the associates in their subject?

It’s a big world. There are some scientists who are also very religious. How does Islam handle the question? In rowing they have a championship that includes all levels and sizes of crews for the overall championship. The LU varsity finished 4th in the US this year. Not bad.

Never watched the YouTube as they are blocked here, but offering my apologies. I seem to recall it from this St Pete Times Factcheck site:

[PolitiFact | Sarah in the spotlight](http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/sep/12/sarah-spotlight/)

But when I searched and pulled it back up, they appear to have dropped that aspect of it - esp since it’s in their opening paragraph, but the “rest” of the article doesn’t appear to be there.

Of course, it could be that my brain is just getting old too… Either way, the SNL skit was still one of my all-time top favorites (that and the financial bailout one).

As far as the original topic is concerned… yes Liberty has debate and sports options. I still say there are better academic schools out there if the OP is looking - even within the conservative “against” evolution realm. Whether a degree from there is pro or con will probably depend on grades and personality of the graduate (just as at any other school) along with bias of the evaluator (pro or con). However, since the OP hasn’t responded again (or has he and I missed it?), I’m thinking this is just a ■■■■■ thread. It has been an interesting read though - moreso than any other thread for a school I really don’t have an interest in.

Well, sure. But even most very religious scientists don’t believe in a young Earth and deny evolution.

There are scientists of deep faith who have wrestled with the contradictions between the reality that science brings about the world we live in (such as the overwhelming evidence that evolution is real), and still come out honoring the transcendant, spiritual dimension of life–and that is a very respectable position. Then, there are those who can look at evidence–real evidence–of a past that goes farther back than 5,000 years, and just close their minds to it. What in them makes them do it? Why do they short-circuit their brains to create sophistic arguments that deny reality? It is that kind of mental self-trickery (and trickery of others) that I find very hard to respect.

Cherry picking quotes from a single response says more about you and other critics than it says about Palin. Grasping at straws, again. :)

ok this is totally hijakcing the thread but I know a couple of great scientists who are religious as well. They (like I) believe that God was responsible for the Big Bang and evolution. Problem solved lol

Speaking of which, I did not pick the quote, I merely set the record straight about who said it and then, in response to what question. Catch up at your leisure.

I wasn’t referring to you, I was referring to whoever made the youtube video and cut out the answer after the first sentence.

Uhhh…they dont teach science… its not even a real degree good luck doing anything worthwhile afterwords. BTW i live in lynchburg, and the college life scene is awful x 10.
